Data handling for chat: Chat messages sent through our AI feature are processed by OpenAI's API under their standard data processing terms. Each request carries your most recent messages and the chat's replies, up to 20 in all, plus any answers you gave to the optional personalization questions on the chat page. If any of your messages among them matches our crisis screen, nothing is sent to OpenAI and the chat shows crisis resources instead. Otherwise, our server code passes them to OpenAI without saving them or writing their text to our logs, and the conversation itself lives only in the open chat page, so it disappears when you close or reload it. However, we cannot guarantee how OpenAI handles data transmitted to their service. For this reason, do not enter any information you would consider private health data.

Data Retention

We keep no copy of chat conversations: they exist only in the open chat page in your browser until you close or reload it. To enforce chat rate limits (30 messages per 10 minutes and 100 per day), our server does keep request counts for each 10-minute window and each day, labelled with a hashed form of your IP address rather than the address itself. These counts hold no message text. Each one is deleted no later than about 2 days after its 10-minute window or day began: an hourly cleanup removes any count that old, and many are removed sooner, when your next window starts. However, messages sent to OpenAI for processing may be retained by OpenAI according to their data retention policies.
